Well, excuse us, Miss Thang! Gabrielle Douglas sat down with Oprah for a frank and revealing conversation about his career of gymnastics, the lives of his family and his experience at the Olympics in London 2012.
Douglas point was clarified her name: she prefers Gabrielle Gabby.
"I prefer the beauty of the name Gabrielle," said Douglas.
Alrighty then. Why does this feel like Steve Urkel to tell people preferred to be called Stefan Urkel when took his alterego?
About his father, Gabby quietly muttered, "We're a bit distant."
Gabby also revealed that his mother, Natalie Hawkins, she keeps talking to his father. Hawkins took his daughter to change her phone number so that his father, Douglas Sgt, couldn't get in touch with her.
This means that the gold medal gymnast has not yet had the opportunity to share his victory with his father at all. Also not over the phone.
We've already touched on some of the drama surrounding dad Gabby in a previous article, but it seems that Hawkins would have prevented his daughter to speak with his father completely rotten.
Gabby was clearly thrilled to see him at the trials, so why prevent father and daughter to communicate now? Hawkins might have more info than we do about the situation, but it rubs the wrong way.
Douglas also revealed that one of the reasons he wanted to leave his old gym, Excalibur, Virginia was because of racism.
She recounted an experience in which his teammates referred to her as their "slave".
Horrified, depressed and ostracized by the behavior of his teammates, Gabby begged her mother to let her move in Iowa.
His desire to move had much to do with getting away from his old gym, she said.
Partons, Gabby adopted family in Iowa, saying that has filled a void for them. And ' Hawkins said that taking Gabby, Partons had done something to her family that she would never be able to repay.
Travis Parton gave praise to God, saying that the voice of God who encouraged him to take Gabby.
The infamous hair debacle was touched, but the debate between Oprah and her mom, Gabby essentially boiled down to "haters go to hate."
And they are right. A most unhappy women who complained about Gabby's hair can't even touch my toes, let alone do a back flip on a balance beam, then screw 'em.
