After winning the gold medal in gymnastics all-around event and the womens ' Olympic Games London 2012, Gabby Douglas has become an overnight sensation.
The cute-as-a-button, humble 16-year-old from Virginia captured the hearts and minds of seemingly everyone with his Russian gymnast Viktoria Komova won. All, except you, the media.
There were more than a few eyebrow-raising moments surrounding the coverage of Gabby WINS in London in recent days. It starts with Express, a publication published by The Metro Washington Post.
The paper caught flack for running a picture of the gold medal winning gymnastics womens ' with Gabby facing the camera in the background, instead a shot with all five prominent women.
SheSoMajor.com encapsulated some people expressed outrage on Twitter by decision of the publication:
"Hey @ ExpressNightOut ... care to explain why you chose to use an image of women that DOUGLAS team GABBY omitted? Someone is missing. There is no mention of the name of Gabby Douglas ' in the article, "wrote @ TheJazzyBelle
This is what expressed replied:
Here's the cover of the book refers to:
Did catch that "prominent feature" they were talking about?
There is Gabby, top-right, upside down with her face covered and his name is not mentioned anywhere. Yes, that is totally giving Gabby the spotlight she deserves!
Meanwhile, on the official website of London 2012, check out the athlete's face, missing from the right column:
And here's a photo that ESPN worked by Gabby on her Facebook page:
Can someone put a flash on Gabby's face so we can actually see it? Why is she bathed in shadow like that? These photographers have not learned a thing about black people lighting?
The final insult came last night by NBC itself.
After Gabby emerged victorious from the all-around event womens ', NBC cut to a commercial break. Commercial which was aired for its new show Animal Practice and showed a monkey goofily malevolent making gymnastic routines.
You can't do this kind of fail and shadow up.

Comparison of Gabby is receiving the treatment to treat virtually sanctified Saint Michael Phelps. Not our Olympus blacks deserve the same respect and prominence?
